aftermarket muffler fitting in stock setup??
aftermarket muffler fitting in stock setup??
I was looking to just get a muffler for my setup and was going to get a flowmaster 80 series, since my car is stock and it's cheap. Well flowmaster has one that will supposedly fit in the stock location and hook right up they say, but how does that work? That muffler is 3" in and dual 2.5" out. I measured my pipes and it comes in at aroun 2.5" and my pipes going out are around 2" inside diameter. So how can that fit, i dont' see how? Anyone ever put one on a stock setup?
The stock muffler inlet is 2.75" with dual 2.25" outlets. If you get the Flowmaster muffler with a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets, any muffler shop should be able weld in the new muffler with a few minor modifications.
You will see more gains if you put on a cat-back vs a muffler alone. You'll go from 2 3/4 in. I-pipe to 3", and you'll go from 2 1/4" tailpipes to 2 1/2". The cost is more, a Hooker aerochamber is 79.99 through Jegs, and a cat-back will cost $300 and higher depending on what you want. The cat-back can be done in your driveway with hand tools and in some cases a sawzall. I would much rather do that instead of pay a muffler shop to just stick on a muffler. Check into Mac cat-backs, they are a good quality and they are able to be put on with some hand tools.
