After market Radiator Question and sugestions
After messing around with Grip about ordering the radiator first, I wish I would of got the Be Cool when the price was cheep at Jegs.com.
I waited and waited for a radiator I was told was in stock and ready to ship. A few weeks later I called and e-mailed and got no reply. When I did get threw to Charged Air, I was told the filler neck was on order and it would take a few more weeks. So I waited a few more weeks and called again. Still not ready. I finally got the radiator and it lookied pretty. It had no fitting but I wasnt discouraged yet. I test fit the radiator with the stock plastic support and it was a HELL NO GO. I grinded the plastic support all the way down before it finally lined up. Only problem is I was still an inch too high, and the plastic support was not ever going to be wide enought. I set that aside and called BMR to ask about their Polished Radiator support. They said it was wide enought to hold a 3in wide radiator. SO I ordered it and it arrived very fast. Well It was still too narrow at the ends so I did some cutting and bending and got it to work enought to hold the radiator in place. The filler neck and cap was so close to the support that I had to remove it to cut more mmetal to get the cap on and off. This radiator is huge! I went to Advanced and got enought fitting to make all the lines work as long as I use the screw clamps. The knub of a fitting that came on the radiator is so short I have to check the hoses every so often to check for lines backing off. The coolant level sensor does not fit in the whole and there is not alot of room there to play. I used a 2inch piece of hose to clap the sensor to the fitting. I also had to cut the sensor housing to fit the hose on it. It was a huge pain. It doesnt fit good at all but It does keep the car cool. Real cool with 2 bottles of watter wetter and Prestone and Distilled water.
I mounted my Tranny cooler to the condensor along with the oil cooler. Well the radiator pushed everything around so much I had to go to the welding shop and cut some of the car where the cooolers were rubbing on the top of the front end. This is the under side of where the bolts go in to hold the Radiator support.(Bulkhead, front cross piece). After I cut it the 2 pieces seperated so I clamped them together and welded them together from underneath the car. Not fun welding under car on my back.
I finally got it all together and it Cools well with the use of my CSI H2O pump. If I ever convert to a ram air hood and air box I will have to replace the radiator because the air box will never mount to the aftermarket radiator support. Charged Air was said to be going under or something like that. They had some problems or something, I don't know. Ohh The radiator also didn't come with 4 slots to hold the cooling fan on just 3. The condensor only fits good enought to use 2 top tabs. Go figure.
I'm waiting for the Be Cool Radiators to go on sale and I may go ahead and change the radiator and do the RAM AIR thing. I saw the Be Cools as low as $449.00 I think at Jegs. wait till winter and the price will drop.

I had the same problems with Charged Air. Their customer support SUCKS... I've bought damn near every mod for an LT1 and of all the vendors, Charged Air was the worst. I bought an LT1 adjustable fuel regulator (very nice, btw...) and was told it was in stock and would ship immediately. My engine was being built, so I needed it asap. two weeks later and they hadn't responded to any of my 10 phone messages or emails and I thought I'd been ripped off. Luckily (not...) my rebuild took longer than estimated and I'd almost forgotten about the regulator when lo and behold it just showed up. Never any word from Charged Air at all. I didn't post about them because I thought my case may have been a one-time thing and I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. But after seeing this post about the radiator, it made my blood boil. I damn near bought one of those radiators...
