AFR 227's too big?
AFR 227's too big?
Hey guys, I was just wanting to get some info/opinions on AFR 227's. Who has run these heads and have you had good luck or any regrets. Just a little concerned about the heads being a little much for my setup in the sig. will be going with a larger cam, probably a 236/244 .608 .613" 112 and 150-200 shot of juice. If i bought these heads i would bring the combustion chamber size down from 76 cc to around 65 cc to raise compression to around 12.5:1. Will I be losing a lot of power down low, or will it be well worth it up top? car is rarely street driven, mostly track, and will be run on high octane gas. thanks for opinions/info

Modify the block and go SB2.2's Chad! You know you want to.
I don't know if the 227's will kill your port velocity. Maybe 210's would be better, but I don't have any experience to speak from. Todd Tosto is running 227's on his 69 Firebird, but he spins it to 9000 and runs methanol.

Personally, I think a 227 would be too large. Maybe for an all-out crack motor or big blower project w/ a huge solid roller, but not for what you're looking at.
Anything above a 210 head will require offset (.450?) rockers. Last time I checked, the 210 & 220 heads are the same price too.
What about a set of 215RRs? You'll have to change intakes, but they flow insane numbers.
