Advice for part selection

Well I am about to purchase the parts to start my 383 build. What I am wondering is what you guys think of this setup from Combonation.

Its the following:

Callies Dragonslayer 383 cubic inch Rotating Assembly 4.030" Bore SRP -5cc dish pistons, 3.75" stroke Callies forged crank, 6.00" Caliies Pro I-Beam Rods.

I will be running their stage 2 heads with it and a cam to match the heads. Now I am curious if this would handle either a 250hp+ shot of n2o or say 15+psi. If I went FI then I would swap the pistons out for the -31cc dish.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I would go with the -31 pistons. Checkout my site in the sig. to see what I used.

Not familiar with those pistons, but for that much n20, you will want to look at JE's nitrous/blower pistons, the top ring land is much much thicker than a flat top piston, they are likely a -16cc dish as well, so 11:1 is still attainable with these pistons depending on head CC and deck height.

The rest of the assembly is very good though, dont skimp on the machining though, its more important than that $1000 crank and $700? rods

Thanks for the quick responses. Very familiar with not cutting any corners when it comes to machine work. I'll defintely look into those pistons you mentioned. I guess the biggest thing is I have to really make up my mind if I want to FI or spray it. As far as the rods and crank those should be fine for what I want to do?? Thanks again.

Dont know what youre spending on that setup, but here is something I think that would be comparable, and a very good setup for spray.

Either callies dragonslayer, sportsmaster crank
or a Cola crank (close to same price as sportsmaster)

Lunati promod rods
any oliver rod

JE or ross nitrous pistons

Might want to think about only .020 pistons to allow more room for future rebuilds

Yea I am really looking at the dragonslayer crank, but for rods what is your opinion on the callies rods. Would it be a wiser choice to go with billet.

For the final out come of the motor I am wanting about the 500hp range before any spray or boost. I belive its doable without giving up too much drivabilty.

I think you are fine with that crank/rod combo no problem, very very good equipment.

Only thing I would worry about is the pistons, likely they would be fine for spray, but that much spray I would look into a piston designed for spray.

That bottom end is plenty plenty good though, just as example, I plan on spraying that much on an eagle forged bottom end, but with nitrous pistons.

The big thing with nitrous is the tuning, make sure, make sure, make sure, it does not detonate, run it retarded a little more just to be safe, if every 100hp shot is 2 degreesor whatever, run it 2.5 or something.
