Advice about cam/engine work

I'm almost done with my 3.4/LT1 swap...I have all the 3.4 stuff out and the LT1 is just sitting around (I'm going to wait until just before spring to put it back in). I wanted to do as much to the LT1 as possible before I put it back in. I REALLY want to get the hotcam kit (becuase the engines already out). Now, I'm trying to sell all my 3.4L stuff to help buy the hotcam kit. I'm sure I can buy it before spring, but I'm not sure if I can afford headers...Its possible, but I'm not sure. Should I go ahead and get the cam kit and then just worry about the headers later, or should I buy something else first? Also, roughly how much do you guys think I can get for all my 3.4L stuff?

Well, since the engine is out of the car, you obviously don't need to drive the vehicle. I would at a minimum install the following at one time...

Hotcam Kit
New timing chain
New plugs and wires
At least shorty headers. If you ever plan on porting your heads, get long tubes now it will be worth it in the long run.

Shortly there after...
Cat back or cut out

Like I said, I dunno if I'll have enough for the shorties...I planned on looking for some CHEAP headers to last me until I can afford some better ones (hooker lt's)...I already bought new plugs (lol, not wires yet, but I will)...but I'm going to make sure I get the hotcam...Will I feel anything noticable with the hotcam kit without headers?

Also, awhile ago I bought a 2.5" flowmaster exhaust (well, the 80 series muffler and my local shop was going to bend me the pipe). If I get the hotcam kit and shorties, will the 2.5" flow enough air? Or will I need to step up to 3"?

Ok you are going to want to get 3" piping under your car. That will flow better when you get the cam and headers in. Next, I would probably recomend getting a cheap set of Edelbrock or MAC shorties. They both run about $389 for the wole kit which includes y-pipe and all necessary installation pieces. You won't notice a huge difference if you just put the Hotcam in without any exhaust. But since you have he engine out now, I would say put the cam in and shorty headers(if you have enough money) and then save up for the rest.
