pros:

- about 80ish lbs (rough math 100lb = -.1 sec)
- Throttle response tiny bit better
- If condensor removed, better airflow for radiator(tranny cooler if equiped)
- cleaner looking engine bay (which we all know the LT1 needs )
Couldnt have said it better, you'll never have to change the #2 spark plug blindly with busted knuckles again.

Re: ac delete pulley gain

I would imagine there is some hp gain...it does take some power to turn the a/c even when it is not in use.

I bet the same power as a pulley swap.

Yes, when the AC is off.. It spins freely, you can spin it your hand incredibly easily.. You wont gain any power...

80lbs and 50lbs? I thought the AC Delete was worth maybe 20-25lbs max?

The compressor + condenser is about 30#. Add on the lines, separator bottle, evaporator and it goes higher.

Re: ac delete pulley gain

50# is a fairly good estimate for weight loss, maybe a tad high.

I know that my A/C condensor pulley spun more freely than my delete pulley did.

On a side note, anybody have to change belts when they did this?

Re: ac delete pulley gain

Perhaps I was mistaking the compressor as being 20lbs or something. I think I'll be doing this mod with the H/C install. 40-50lbs of the front end is awesome, plus I dont like A/C anyways. Thats why God made T-Tops

I was wondering how much shorter the belt had to be, I'd ask the belt #, but I already have a different size from my pulley.

Re: ac delete pulley gain

After doing this swap it seems as if my belt is a little too tight. The motor acts like it seizes the second you turn the ignition key off.

I remember shoebox once saying there are two different belt sizes for discrepancies between A/C compressor diameter or something. Maybe he can elaborate.

Re: ac delete pulley gain

its more of a weight saving mod rather than hp increasing mod.

Re: ac delete pulley gain

I thought you could get a 96-97 ss w/out ac? Did it still have the pulley? I figured they would have dropped the entire system and used a different belt.

Re: ac delete pulley gain

The pulley spins relatively freely..but it is rotational weight that must be spun up.
