ac delco vs. generic?
okay, i have been wondering something for a little while... is it really worth the money to spend so much on gm oem (or ac delco) over generic parts like borg warner or other cheaper brands? i understand for the most part that "you get what you pay for" but is this always the case? are gm oem or ac delco parts really worth that much more than other brands or is it that you pay more for them because of the name on the parts? i ask this because i may be looking at replacing my entire ignition system and through price quoting i have noticed a significant difference in the price totals when comparing all ac delco to all generic... most of the people i have talked to in person say that yes ac delco is worth the money and two of them told me the would kick my butt if i didnt go with all ac delco. however, they all work in shops and stores that sell the parts... are they being honest or just trying to make some extra bucks? so if anyone could shed some light on this subject i would greatly appreciate it!
AC Delco OE Platinum plugs are good, but i believe a good amount of people here run NGK TR55, and NGK TR55IX plugs here too. I originally bought some bosch plugs but after hearing stories about them in chevy blocks, i quickly returned them and got some AC-Delco plugs. If you want to play it safe, get the OE plugs.
what about with permormance motors? i eventually plan on rebuilding my stock lt1 and building it into a 383 stroker with lt4 heads, lunati voodoo cam and lunati sledgehammer crank... can the ac delco parts handle the permormance demands better than other "performance parts" like the opti, injectors, coil, and other things im just not thinking of right now?
well, i've always had faith in gm parts, i just dont like the mark up for them but, i will stay faithfull and spend the extra money... especially if it will cause me less headache in the long run... thanks!
Yeah, just a hint! The dowel-gear that came installed (and was non-removable) in the reman core was too long. Upon assembling cap to core, there were no contact issues, but when bolted to the motor... Well, the evidence is in the pic!
FYI, I got 40 miles out of it until it eventually crapped out. So, it's a good way to save money if you don't plan on driving the car more than 40 miles... EVER...
