AC Delco platinum or NGK Iridium plugs

I have been hearing alot about the Iridium plugs but I have a friend that is a gm tech and he sayd stay with the ac's till I go nitrous. How good are the NGK's as far as miles on them go.

Re: AC Delco platinum or NGK Iridium plugs

Welcome to the board!

I recently made the decision on plugs. I ended up going with the non-Iridium NGK TR55s. I have read a lot of good things about them. I am about to go with LT headers when I change Plugs, wires plugs etc. The plugs were much less expensive than the AC's. They will not last as long, but will be easier to access after headers, and for the money can be changed a couple of times before they cost as much as the ACs.

About the NGK Iridiums... I have not heard anyhting good or bad about them yet.

NGK TR6IX with my mods below they dramatically improved my gas mileage. As far as performance dunno. 6.99 a plug though

Previous plugs were AC Delco, NGK TR55 and ACCEL with the best for me being above.

Unless Delco solved the problem with the platinum pucks falling off, I wouldn't take Delcos if they were free.
My '92 Corvette had Delco platinum plugs from the factory and 6 plugs had pucks fall off.

Personally, I don't use any of the fancy plugs, just plain old Autolite coppers... with some small modifications.

The iridium plugs are supposed to last a ridiculus amount of time. If you have longtube headers, then they are a good idea, as you don't want to have to change plugs very often.

*shrugs* this maybe true, but plug access for most cars with longtubes is good, thus the reason I change my plugs at every oil change. For $1/plug, and the 30 minutes it takes; typically while the oil is draining; it's worth it to me.

How often do you change your oil?

About every 5K or so, typically once or twice a season... Mobil 1 Synth & a K&N Filter...

You can get away with running those plugs longer, but I modify the plugs so they have a shorter life.

autolite 104 is in the engine now i think im goin to change to 103's or ac delco r42lts i dunno yet
but i have around 11.3:1 cr so run a colder plug

the ngk tr6ix is a nice plug its one stage colder than stock
tr55ix is the stock heat range iridium plug

if you have some decent mods then run the tr6ix
