you can do the ac delete. just go on ebay and buy the 1LE pulley delete kit.

You won't see any power change. You also cannot buy a smaller belt and go around it. You have to get a delete pulley and remove the a/c compressor. The knock off Chinese pulleys on Ebay are junk. Get a GM delete pulley (p/n 10115875).

With the compressor clutch disengaged, is there any measurable difference in the parasitic loss of spinning the A/C compressor pulley compared to spinning the 1LE pulley?

Seems to me that the only value would be in the weight reduction and increased room in the engine bay.

I was thinking the same thing...most of my AC is gone but i left the compressor for now...will it make that much of a difference with it out?

It's basically just an idler when the a/c is off, so I don't see much difference in drag as compared to the delete pulley.
There is a bit of weight difference, though.

Between the compressor, pipes, hoses, etc., it ends up being about 15 pounds.

And when the compressor is off it acts like an idler anyway, so you won't gain any horsepower, like those have mentioned. But boy, it's nice having all that room!

I've been wanting to do pull the A/C out of mine for awhile. My only concern is what do i do with all the A/C compressed gas in the lines? Do i just disconnect everything and let it come out, or do I need to take it somewhere and have the system drained first?

Your local shop can evacuate the system for you. It's against the law to just vent that stuff into the air. Not only that..it isn't good for us if you do...chuckle.

Also what did you guys use to plug the holes in the radiator where the two AC hoses come out....or do I need to plug those at all since there will be no more liquid in the line?

The A/C lines don't run to the radiator. They run to the A/C condensor, in front of the coolant radiator. You remove the condensor and the lines, and then the lines that run back to the firewall for the evaporator. Removing the evaporator is a bit more of a problem, since you have to pull the heater core first. Mine is still there.

Ok, my mistake then. I was looking at the diagram on shoebox's page for the AC layout and it looked like it had two lines running out of the radiator for the AC lines. I could probably pull the heater core out and just take it all out since it never gets driven in the winter, I'll probably leave it in to keep my defrost working.
