Question abs inop light on

I have read through the many and very helpful messages and threads on the infamous "abs inop" light problem. I have a 93 Z28 with 140,000 miles on it with new rear rotors and Hawk pads, and freshly turned front rotors and nearly new pads. (No, I haven't bled the brake lines).

The brakes feel great. Yes, my abs inop light comes. By the way, the light was on before I renewed my brakes.

Here's what I've done to try and fix the problem to date:

1. Installed two new bulbs in the 3rd brake light.
2. Cleaned the ground wires/terminals (by the red box and on the other side of the radiator)
3. Replaced the rear sensor in the rear end.
4. Checked to make sure my Taylor wires aren't near the front sensor wires.
5. Checked all the abs connectors to make sure they have not come loose or have become damaged.

The only other info I can share is that the light comes on for a few seconds right after I start the car but goes off. With the car running but not moving, I can hit the brakes and the light doesn't come on. When I put the car in reverse, the light doesn't come on. When I put the car in 1st gear and start moving forward, the light comes on every time. If I shut the car off and restart it, the light goes off and will not come on again (other than for that brief period after restarting) until I go forward in 1st gear.

I recently purchased a used right front wheel sensor assembly from a local salvage yard off a 95 Camaro. The left one is still available to me for $40. Before I change the front right and possibly left sensor assemblies I was hoping you guys could give me some other ideas to pursue.

Thanks,

Why are you wasting time shotgunning the problem, not to mention the money. GET IT SCANNED. The first thing you want to do is get the code. Clear it and see if it returns. When it does, check the shop manual for the error code. Follow the procedure to check it and replace the item in question.

My ABS INOP problem turned out to be a faulty BCM which new cost $700.00 dollars. Went to a junk yard and got one for $25.00. Fixed the problem a year ago and been good since.
