About to replace my starter and solenoid...anything to look out for?
About to replace my starter and solenoid...anything to look out for?
I'm replacing these on Saturday and I'm curious if anyone knows how long this should take? Is it pretty intensive, or simple? Any special tools I will need?
Sometimes people have step by step instructions with photos, that would be great if anyone has them.

2 bolts hold the starter in place, i think they are 14mm. They will be REALLY tight. Pull them out and the starter will drop down. 2 wires held on by nuts connect to the posts on the starter. Remove nuts/wires and your done. Re-install. Also i would disconnect the battery
When I work on my car, I push the tranny lines out of the way and take off the cover that keeps crap out of the tq area.
What starter did you end up going with and what price?
If mine fails, I will be looking into the LT4 replacement. I guess it weighs less and surprise being it weighs less, smaller.

it looks like everyone who replied has m6's cause, i know for a fact that i have to drop my Y pipe to get to my starter. not sure on stock manifolds... but i have mac headers.
do not buy the cheapest one anyone has... go for the better one. i replace mine 4 months ago. it starting working when ever it wanted.... so i took it back and got another one... lasted me one day.. now if my battery is connected my starter is on the ON position... it wont turn off. get the better one. they run about 200 or so. it takes me 15mins to drop my y pipe, orp and starter after doing it so many times

I got my starter out without dropping the Y pipe, and i have an auto,
but like the others said get the tranny cooler lines out of the way and the TC cover and make sure the cars cold, Its kind of a bitch wiggling the started out of there but IT can be done without the y pipe coming off,
o yeah the wires going to the starter are a real joy taking off,
Be patient

Well it sucked but I got it done in a couple of hours. I just hate getting under the car with a jack holding it up. (even with 2 jacks) Unfortunately I had to lower the exhaust pipes to get the starter out of there, once I did this it was pretty easy. Definitely a two man job in my opinion.
Car started up nicely too!! Hopefully this will be my last repair for at least a day or two.
opti, A/C, window motor, CD player, battery, transmission, starter, And the hits just keep on coming!!!!!!!!!
