I have a 95 six speed, and I've been reading about the technical service bulletin. In the last Ponitac high performance they said you can take it to a dealer and "request that they replace the unbalanced driveshafter under GM technical service bulletin #674101." Is this free and still in effect? I know with the recalls that you have a limited time to respond.

Before they change your DS, they'll check your VIN in the system to see if its been done to your car already.. if not, they will...recalls dont have an expirey date...from what i remember...

I believe 93-97, but not Im not sure. I think in 98 they went to the aluminum driveshaft. Ours are steel.

 

It is NOT a recall... its a technical service bulletin (TSB). A TSB is simply an instruction from the factory to the dealers, explaining how to fix a problem that occurs frequently, and may be difficult to solve. I think it is safe to say that the dealer would only be obligated to make the repair free of cost if the car was still within the factory warranty, or some extended warranty. Perhaps you could find a dealer who want you as a future customer, and is willing to work with you, but this isn't a recall. Those generally deal with emissions or safety issues, and are mandatory free repairs, although even those can have a mileage or age limit.

I tried it years ago with the car out of warranty, no bites.

Funny thing is (and I mean this in a sarcastic way) I originall went to my dealer complaining about a vibration at 70 to 80 mph. When the car was still under warranty. They shrugged me off, then after the car warranty expires I found this site!!!

Oh well, live and learn...
