Unhappy A4 Trans Problem

I have a problem with the A4 in my 95 Camaro. It appears that first and overdrive are gone. Unless you pull the shifter down into low, it tries to take off from a stop in third. It was rebuilt by a friend who worked for a GM dealer a few months ago. He's moved and I need to start somewhere. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks ahead of time for all your help.

General trans troubleshooting should be in a general technical forum, moving to LT1 Tech. Thanks.

Your transmission is in limp mode. Double check your main harness connector on side of transmission as well as the Output Speed Sensor connector at the back of the transmission. Also check all of your fuses in the fusebox. That should get you going.

Possilble 1-2 shift solenoid not working. It turns on in 1st and 4th. If it is inop you will only have 2nd and 3rd. It should start in 3rd though. Are you sure it is starting in 2nd?

How do you get it out of limp mode? There are no blown fuses. I haven't gotten under it to check the harnesses yet. If everything is ok there, what next?

If no fuses are blown, you can reset the PCM (disconnect the battery cable). It should start in regular mode...if the PCM sees a problem then it'll automatically go to limp mode.
