I tryed to use them but when I torqued them down the threads pulled off the bolts. I looked at the differences and found the M6 flywheel to be much thicker than my 93 A4 flywheel. The crank threads are perfectly fine. I was wondering can I go to the hardware store and get longer grade 8 bolts and use them?

I wouldn't trust hardware store bolts. Go to an auto parts store or mail order a set of the correct ARP bolts for <$10. Very critical bolts!
