a4 problems at track with stall

i have a 97 ta with the following mods

as&m headers, corsa catback, obdi conversion, lt4 knock module, msd6al, vig 3200, 3.73 gears and bfg drag radials

i went to the track yesterday and logged a run with datamaster scanning both the engine and tranmission together. it would hit the rev limiter when shifting into 2nd. i'm also getting some spark retard too. bryan at pcmforless has put the obdi high stall fix in my program and already made a change to it as well

my best 60' was 1.704, but could only run a 13.17@102.33, when my best before the stall is in the sig on a stock converter

i can send the scan for anyone to look at, if they want it. i'm stuck on what to do, i was thinking about sending the stall back and have it restalled to a 2800.

thanks
steve

i also posted this in the drivetrain section, but i don't know if its specifically the drivetrain or programing or something else

I don't know if you have any replies in the other forum, but this problem is a semi-common problem for LT1 cars called the "stall wall" problem. If the stall is above a 3200 or so, some LT1 cars will hit the rev limiter, exactly as you do, when shifting into 2nd gear.

My friend Joe (RamAir95TA) had this problem when he installed his 3600 stall, but Bryan from PCMforless came up with a fix for it and it's been fine ever since. This is the only method of remedying this problem that I've heard about so far, send him a PM or an email if you want more info.

Do you have a tranny cooler? If not you're overheating the **** out of your tranny and it's shifting late. It happened to me at the track too.

The 2nd gear shift problem is for OBD1 computers over 3000 stall I believe. Apparently Bryan can fix it but I think its kind of a crap shoot where half the cars it will work where half it wont. You could always toss that OBD2 back in there and your problem will go away.. of course then youll need new programming but that is a lot cheaper and easier than sending your stall back.

i have a tranny cooler installed, it runs through the stock one, then into a b&m super cooler. the tranny was around 180 at the track.

i did try my obdii computer too, it did the same thing, but then it was on stock programming (3.23 gears)
