I have an A4 and would buy another one. Most of the racing I do is from light to light or at the track. I dont do the road course thing and I rarely get to really push it on the freeway. If your like me and most of the racing is in a straight line then get the A4. I drive a decent stick but I will never shift a manual as fast as my 4L60E shifts with the TransGo shift kit. That thing still bangs from second to third. I don't think you would get much disagreement that its also easier to launch the A4 along with maintaining consistent times. The roll ons are also great depending on the starting speed. As long as it drops to 4250 or 4500 its a great roll.

An M6 is WAY MORE FUN ON THE STREET! Plus you have six different gears which will allow you to keep it in the power band for rolling starts. Holding 4 grand in 3rd gear just before flooring it is awesome.

You can't beat an A4 for racing. Especially if you have LT1 edit and you can adjust the shift points. Put it in OD and floor it. It's like having an air-shifted manual valve-bodied automatic.

Swapping to an A4 afterwards is not as easy as it sounds.
1) You need a different wiring harness for the additional A4 sensors
2) You need an A4 radiator or an auxillary tranny cooler.
3) You need an A4 crossmember
4) You need a converter (stock stall sucks)
5) If you buy a '94, you can only us a '94 tranny (95-97 are different)

Go with the M6!

Get a M6, you won't regret it. It is much more fun.

This is my first manual car. And I love it. I drive in traffic all the time, this car just never gets old .

I test drove auto LT1s before I got this car, and they were ok, but when I test drove this car, it was a blast to drive.

Go M6. It rules.

Oh and it does force you to pay attention to the road, which has probably saved me from getting in accidents a few times already.

I have a 97 SS M6. I don't use it for a daily driver and I would say get the manual if you don't drive it every day. I raced my car last year for a season bracket racing and it is harder to launch than an auto but with practice you can do fine. If you lose some in shifting you make up some with the extra horsepower on the top end. An M6 makes the car feel like an animal on the street. If it is a toy M6 all the way.

I've always preferred manual transmissions over automatics. I'm looking forward to being able to drive my Z again. To me, equal cars just feel stronger with a good manual transmission. That may be due to constantly having your hand on the shifter and the physical interaction with the car. That's one of the fun things about driving them. And I guess manuals do tend to put down more horsepower as well.

I love my m6, my first car I drove manual in was my T/A, didn't stall it until after the purchase The car is very very fun to drive and you just feel in-touch with the road. You are definitely more aware of your surroundings in a m6 because you need to plan to take a corner fast and you will never be bored.

Needless to say, you will need to buy clutches if you are learning on our cars (I need one ) but it's worth it in the end.

I have a 97ss auto (trans go and madz press/shift adjust) and a 96 WS6 LE2 with a 6 speed ,spec 4 and 410's. The money you'd spend on a stall and labor you could have some 410's and some ET streets and kill the auto and still get decent mileage!

^^Thats what i try telling this noob. Due to the convenience of having a 6th gear you can throw some aggressive gears in the rear end and still have decent RPMs on the highway.

Not mention the fun factor of shifting through gears.

Wish I had the convenience of a 6th gear in my 5.0

(Friend btw)

personally, id stick with the a4. but like someone posted earlier, you could go with the m6 and youd have no trouble swapping with someone. if you feel like doing the work.

Bottom line is most cases.. the auto is faster and all cases usually w/a stall.. fun factor the manual is there. If you want to impress high school chicks get the 6spd. If you want to beat the highschoolers w/6spds get an A4.
