Re: A4 or M6/????

Is your car an automatic (A4 for automatic four speed) or a stick shift (M6 for manual six speed)??

M6 car will make more power, less drivetrain loss...

A4 cars are more consistant at the track, and usually get better times.

Re: A4 or M6/????

The T-56 tranny's can handle more power than the auto's.

The M6 will generally put down a little more power than the A4 due to less parasitic drivetrain loss, but the A4 when properly set up (think converter) will kill an M6 off the line. Plus the A4 is easier on the driveline than the M6 is.

Well put. Basically automatics take ALOT more work than an M6, but the work pays off. I just helped built a 4L60E for my buddies z28 with alto red clutches, 13 vane pump, new valve body, and a vacuum modulator. The thing hits HARD when it shifts. We also modified the trans-go to hit harder.

Basically Automatics are more work and break more often, but IMO they are better for 1/4 mile when they are set up right.

This is comming from a M6 owner. I love my M6 and would never give it up because i love driving, but for a track car, its only automatic.

but for a track car, its only automatic..... i don't know about that. Have you read the spring 2004 issue of best of tech? They have the fastest LS1s to that date. The fastest 6speed runs a better time then the fastest heads and cam setup. Faster then the fastest cam only set up. And only .2 tenths slower then the fastest NA ls1! And the 6speed has no power adder as far as FI/NO2 goes.

This guy did a swap, Dynoed and ran the 1/4 on the same car with the same mods. Here are his results....

Re: A4 or M6/????

vacuume modulator gives you instant down shifts, versus punching the gas, going for half a second, and then down shifting. I got one when I got my tranny from Pro-Built.

I think a stalled 4L60E will take an M6 given similar mods from a dig to 1/4 mile. I really havent heard of too many cam/headers only LT1s running my times(that means stock rear too).
