A4 Guys Inside! Need Help!!

i have a question. why is it that our trannys shift into OD in the 1/4? im sure it prolly sounds like a stupid Q to some of you, but i just dont understand.

i mean, you see guys at the track with 3psds and 3.73/4.11s running through the traps fine at around 5,5-6,0k rpm.

why is it that my car with 2.73s shifts OD WELL before the end of the 1/4 shifting at 5,7k?

reason im asking is my tranny/converter is slipping on n2o going into OD. im trying to figure out a remmedy and why our cars evn shift OD with such small gears??

thanks!!

I would say something is messed up, unless you are trapping very high. I trapped 105 in 3rd with 3.73's...

this doesnt sound good. its done this ever since i first got the car with no mods. i trapped 102 when i ran my 13.6 pass when stock. normally it traped around 101-100 when it was stock. dont know what current traps are.

do you leave yours in OD or do you pull it back in D3. i tried that once but when 5,7k comes in 3rd it just bounces off the rev limiter.

PLEASE HELP! i need to figure out whats going on?

Something is very wrong with your car, i have 2.73's and trap at about 102-103 and the car is only at 3000 rpm in 3rd. Something is slipping in your trans, possbly converter not locking up? Are you sure its shifting into 4th and not third? 1-2 should happen around 55mph, and 2-3 around 85mph. I'd check again, otherwise you have a MAJOR prob!

Aontoher thing, although this is basic, check your trns fluid on level ground with the car running. If it is at the proper level, make sure its red or picknk and not brown or smelling funny. if it is, have it flushed!

im positive its OD. the 1-2 shift comes at about 45 in my car, 2-3 at around 75 and then it shifts OD at about 95.

a friend asked me if i was sure about the rear gears. as far as i know, all cars W/O the D1 gear selector option came with 2.73s. thats what ive been told. and i can normally cruise at 75mph at about 2K.

any other suggestions?? different tranny? gear ratio in tranny messed up??

help....

I ran about those same times with my POS 2.73 rear-end. I always shifted into 3rd right after I went through the traps.

Put a scanner on it, and see if the tranny is throwing any codes, and if not, have a pro look at it. That tranny is electronically controlled, so it may have something to do with the ECM.

I would say that it is slipping in more than 4th, have you knocked the stopper off the shifter that lets you go down to one?, if so , manually shift it once and pay attention to your RPMs and such to see if its slipping, low tranny fluid level could cause it to slip too.

With my 2.7 I run thru the traps just shifting to 3rd...
Raised the shift point a bit and it usually goes thru traps in 2nd...
You definitely have a slipping prob or shift point prob... [ I can hold 1st to like [guessing] 60 ish... surely higher than 45!...
2nd to 100 or so..
