98+ Airbox in 95Z
98+ Airbox in 95Z
Is it possible to install a factory LS1 airbox into a earlier (95) Z? I like the looks (and have plans for the space that would open up). I have found some information about adapting the TB to the Airbox. Seems I can kludge some parts from a 92-96 'Vette. Also, it looks to me like the radiator shroud is different, but I don't know about the underside of the 98+ hoods. I actually plan to use one of the 98+ FIPK's if this will work.

I think the radiator support and hood clearance would be your biggest problems, though. If you look on their project cars page they used the LT1 style intake on an LS1 that was fitted into a 95 T/A.

That LS1 Trans Am has a LT1 style intake on it. I took a complete LS1 airbox assembly with whisper lid, duct taped it to a LT1 core support and set a 4 inch cowl hood on, ain't gonna fly, even if you cut the whole underside of the hood out and pinned it on. K&N says thier CAI will support 700 FWHP with a bigger cone filter, I called and asked...so there ya go.

I re-re-searched and I am PM'ing some folks about the box conversion. I'll post any updates should I come across them.
EDIT: This picture (a 98 conversion my MadKilla) makes me think the shroud/radior brace maybe different. No biggie. Now for the hood. Anyone have shots of the underside of stcok 98+ hood (non-SS preferrably)?
