97 Z28 Running Hot

I have a 97 Z28 that has been down for about 4 years. The problem is that it runs hot. It got so hot with my wife driving it that the seam in the radiator was leaking. The smog pump had gone out on it so I put a new smog pump on it and a new radiator in it.I was going to do a Combustion Leak Detector on it yesterday. but the instructions said let it run for 10 minutes before you start the test.it also said have the antifreeze 2 to 3 inches below the neck of the radiator.so I made sure it was 2 to 3 inches below the radiator. But before 10 minutes is up antifreeze starts coming out the top of the radiator so I cant run that test on it.Could someone tell me what test I could do on It.I would love to get it back on the road .Thanks

Re: 97 Z28 Running Hot

Was the air fully bled from the cooling system when it was filled? Easy to trap air in the system, and that can cause hot spots that promote boiling, particularly when the cap is off and there is no pressure on the system. What % coolant are you running? Too little coolant promotes boiling at low system pressure.
