I am currently in the process of finishing someone else's project and am attempting to reinstall all of the relevant emissions equipment. The vehicle is a 1997 Camaro Z28 with the automatic transmission. First, what is the proper name for this tube? Secondly, what is its physical location in relation to the oil pan and passenger side of the car? I am having quite a bit of trouble getting it to reach on either side of where it appears to hook up. Thank you
96/97 may not be exactly the same. This is further complicated because there was a recall on the AIR system for 95-97, so that may or may not have been done on the 97 you are working on.
The 96 factory service manual shows the components from the pump to the check valves, but the sketch does not include a representation of the oil pan. As I recall, the tube on my 94 wrapped around under the timing cover in front of the oil pan.
Free download of 96 FSM - should be 99+% same as 97, For AIR components see Volume 2 of 2, part 1 of 2, pages 6E-907 thru 6E-912:
Really old photos, and obviously not the stock ignition system, but you can see the AIR injection pipe right behind the AIR pump, snaking around the AIR pump bracket, and curving around under the timing cover. Also obviously not the stock damper/hub, but the AIR stuff was reinstalled in it's original location. Not sure if this helps.
On the passenger side, the tube is peaking through the #2/#4 plug wires:
Thank you for the extremely helpful information as always. Comparing my tube to a seperate one I had, it appears to have been bent at some point. I snaked the tube into place from the top of the engine bay in the end. However, I did have to disconnect two of the power steering lines to get it in place without putting excessive stress on the tube. It certainly is possible although quite tedious.
Glad you managed to put it together. I removed my AIR system when the car became pretty much a “track” car. I had to cut the tube at the mid point under the timing cover, and take it out in two pieces.

I am not surprised by that at all, I believe I did the same to another f-body when I removed the engine. Seemed like a better option at the time compared to removing it properly.
