97 trans am with 94 harness

Hey Guys,

Well im getting more concerned with my car as it starting to show its age. I bought it two years ago off the original owner that drove it year round in the winter and currently has just over 215,000 miles. Original engine and still runs strong and the body is in decent shape considering the miles on it. The underside while ive been under it just doing the headers on it is noticably bad but didnt think to the extent it actually is. Floorpans are rotted in several spots and decent hole. the rear frame is also pretty rusted up so i was going to get this either fixed or buy a donor car.

The Donor car im looking at is a rust free 97 trans am from florida without a spec of rust anywhere on it which is the perfect platform to start with. I have no issue with swapping the driveline out. My main worry is the harness if they are compatible. The car was swapped to an LSX but the harness was not messed with he modded the lsx harness to tap into the lt1 harness connectors. Ill be swapping my driveline and harness from my 94 Formula in my sig. Do both year harness's tap into the main harness so it would be plug and play?

Anyone ever done the swap or know if my 94 harness with tap into the main harness of a 97?

If I follow correctly, the 97 has an unmodified harness. Why not use it? There will just be a few unused connections. A 94 harness will not directly plug into the 97 body. This info on my website lists plugs on the harnesses that are different through the 93-97 years.

Yeah im not familiar with the harness under the hood that much but i asked the guy cause he swapped a lsx harness in but he said he did touch the lt1 harness and converted the lsx harness to tap into the lt1 so he didnt hack it up. Said that my harness would just plug right into it so im not sure exactly what all taps into the harness of this 97 from my 94 if they was any differences. Dont know how much engine harness if anything is still there with the car.

As far as i know the engine harness was removed but wasnt cut and hacked. I was told i just have to plug my 94 harness into it and go.

I gave an answer and provided supporting info. I guess when you go to plug in your 94 harness to the 97 body, you will find out. Your 97 will have a C105 connector waiting for something to plug into it and you won't find anything on your 94 harness to mate to it. It can be adapted, but it is not going to be plug and play.

I'm confused.... if you already knew the answer to the question (wrong, as it may be), why did you ask for help? .....and then reject the helpful info provided by the most knowledgeable person on this site?

I don't get it.

Sorry guys im not familiar with the wiring harness's on our cars and really have no idea what this guy did for the wiring when he adapted it to a lsx. I saw the info which is awesome ill definetly need that if/when i buy the car. I havent seen the car in person to know what im dealing so i feel completely lost which is why im asking these dumb questions and repeating myself. Again sorry for the misunderstanding. Just trying to make sence of this as i would really like to pick up this donor and start fresh then work backwards all the time fixing rusted out parts.
