Question 97 SS Exhaust Cackle (no cats)

I bought a 1997 Camaro SS a few months ago, and the previous owner had made some serious mods to it. One of the mods was to remove the OEM cats and add BBK headers. The car sounds awesome now, asside from an occasional cackle or rattle at 1800-2200 RPM. Is this a problem w/those specific headers and what should I do? The new exhaust lines do not leave much room for cats. The exhuast shop I went to suggested a small glass pack before the muffler to slow the exhaust down enough to eliminate most of the cackle. What do you guys think?

If you remove the cats, it is pretty much a given that you will have some raspiness and unwanted noise. If you add a high flow cat or a small muffler like the shop suggested, that should clean up your exhaust noise.

Thanks guys. The nasty snarl is exactly what I want to get rid of. I will take their advice and see if we can work it out. I like the raw, powerful sound...but I don't need quite that much
