97 SLP LT4 runs better w/ Check Engine Light on??
today i noticed my cars check engine light was on, i also noticed it seems to run better (more responsive)
i checked the codes and found out i didnt put gas cap on all the way - reset gas cap (but didnt reset code)
after abt 2-3 cool-down/warm up cycles the light turned off - and performance was back down to what i was used to
anyone have any thoughts on this??
1997 Camaro SLP LT4

even when the car reached 175deg (where it normally runs at) it felt like it had more pull with the CEL on
maybe something abt being stuck in open loop?? thought the dyno tune would be better than preset non-feedback open loop????
via VE or PE tables? or both? neither? something else?
i know E85 likes rich

i caused another 442 error - SES light came on.. and i raced my neighbors cobra 2 times - then i reseated gas cap - after 2-3 cooldown/warmup cycles the light went off and we re-raced 2 times
with the SES light on i had him by 1 1/2 car
with the SES light off i had him by abt 1/2 car (his front bumber even w/ my door mirror)
his car: 2004 cobra, dyno tuned, pulley, LT headers & catback, 445RWHP
(just to make sure i want mental when i thought car had more pull)

Maybe I need to set my SES light on. LOL But really it sounds like it's a fueling problem. With alcohol different temps require diffenret fueling requirements alot more than gasoline so your tune is must be off a little. So when the SES light comes on it goes rich, which helps out your fueling problem. I would have the car retuned at the dyno and add more fuel to see whats going on.
