97 LT1 knoocking on heaven's door.
So Friday night was a bad night for me in more ways than one.
to make a long story short I was upseat and took the car out for a run
up to 145mph
.
in the morning I found I have a rod knock
.
101200 miles on it.
I want to know if the engine has forged pistions in it?
I believe it does.
I'm going to have to rebuild it get a new rod and have a shop do the assambley on it.
I Just don't have the time to do it my self.
dose any body know where I can get a hole rebuild kit for it?
like Maby Summit?
Can I use the old cam and lifters?
Thanks for any help
I'm realey down about this I only had her for a year now

Re: 97 LT1 knoocking on heaven's door.
Going 145 mph on a public road is just asking to go to heaven.
The pistons are not forged, they are hypereutectic aluminum.
Summit does sell a rebuild "kit" for LT1's. Before digging into a rebuild I would verify the problem. If it needs a rebuild you need to look at your budget, goals, and options. Machine and assembly work is just as, if not more important than the parts used. Many parts may be reused, whether or not you want to depends on many factors.
Finding the problem and then a complete tear down is necessary before too many decisions are made.
