96z28 Gutted Cat

I was wondering how badly my car would run if i just gutted the drivers side cat? Would it run extremely rich..would it be unbalanced since the passenger side is flowing through a cat? Did a search and all i found were single cat LT1s.

I would gut out both sides instead of just one.Or buy a good set of free flowing cats to put back on.Just my opinion though.

well thats the problem only one side is clogged and the passenger side is too hard to gut because i dont have welding equipment.

too hard to gut? Just take a metal rod and a hammer and bang on the crap that is inside the cat. Start up the car and give it a few revs to blow the stuff out. May have to repeat this several times, but it should work. Unless im mistaken on how the cat bolts up on a dual cat car.

the drivers side is easy to do however the passenger side is in the middle of a pipe that is bent in many ways so just sticking a pipe (or a screwdriver) wont get the job done. And i dont feel like cutting and welding (cause i dont have tools for either).

Re: 96z28 Gutted Cat

When I took my y pipe off, the driver side was already gutted and I just left it. It has been fine for me so far. But the sad part is that I did have all the equipment to cut and weld. I was just to lazy. (In the middle of pulling the heads.) So who knows how long I've been running like that. I plan to gut the other one or replace both soon though.
