Anyone ever seen an oil leak *here*?
Hey all,
I have to ask about this, and see if anyone else has had an oil leak where I found one last night on my 95Z.
I had been having an issue, where when I was driving, oil would be everywhere under my car. I had cleaned it all up once, and thought I had it fixed. Long story short, but a breather caused the problem the first time.
Anyway, I was putting the cut out on last night, and noticed all the oil again.
Then, I looked under the windage tray, and there were at least 5 sand dollar size puddles under it, on the ground!!!! I was like
I took it up to dad's and put it on the lift, and seen that I had to repaint, and clean everything again under there, and FIND this oil leak this time, since the reg. oil cap was back on it. I didn't want to have to repaint. This is a 1,000 pt. show car, and everything under it has been repainted, repowered b/c we started using mirrors at shows, so to me, this was a big deal.
WELL.
We couldn't see any leaks after we cleaned it up, so we decided to crank it while it was on the lift, and watch. It was unreal, and you wouldn't have believed it if you wouldn't have seen it.
On the timing chain cover there are 2 line up pins on each side. The one on the passenger side was pouring oil like a cut artery! IT looked like someone had cut a jugular! I just stared at it. Pouring out of that ONE hole while it was idling.
I have never seen or heard of anything like that before.
Well, we ended up tapping that hole, and plugged it w/ a small allen head set screw and some 648 Loctite. It is curing right now, and I am going to crank it this evening around 6.
But here is the thing, the first time I cleaned it all up, it went over a month w/o leaking or draining oil all under the body. I mean, it just started up, w/o any notice. BUT WHY??????? Has ANYONE ever seen ANYTHING like this before? I am really weirded out, and I HOPE this has fixed it. It was about a 5/16 hole. We have a Super Chevy to go to this weekend, and this was NOT something I needed to deal with. We had to remove the balancer pulley to get to all this to.
But I wanted to post on here, and see if ANYONE had ever dealt w/ anything like this before, and most importantly WHY and HOW did it happen.
Thanks for reading this far

You and I have about the same mod combo, 2800 Vigi, CC306, 3.73 (12 bolt),
MSD goodies, BMR stuff, I have GTP heads
Coolio!Yeah, check that area, it is really weird, I don't understand it, and I would have NEVER guessed it. The plug w/ 648 Loctite worked. We let it idle for about 10 minutes, and it is dry as a bone! NO more leaks. I had to add 3/4 of a quart of oil
I mean this stuff was really coming out. Very weird. We would have never seen it if we wouldn't have looked at it while it was idling.
