96 Z28 Starting problems!
Ok so I was workin on my Z and I thought that the gas might be low, and it was on a hill so I decided to start it. It didn't start on the initial attempt, and the crappy battery fizzled out after awhile. So I charged the battery and it started right up, I left it running so I could go get ready to leave. But the car just dies after a minute or so, no sputtering just dies. We checked the spark and their was no spark so we assumed it was the Coil, even though it was a 1 year old MSD coil. Anyways we replaced it and still no spark. All fuses are fine and I am at a loss of what it could be to not get any spark, and their is plenty of fuel going into the fuel rail.
How did you verify this? A fuel pressure gauge connected to the fuel rail Schrader valve is the only way to be sure your have correct fuel pressure for starting. Very common problem for the check valve in the fuel pump to get stuck open, causing a hard starting condition.
Starts, then dies and no spark. Like said, check out the ICM. Advance can test the stock ICM for you. If the ICM checks out, then make sure the opti is sending a signal to the ICM like this http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#opti_test.
