96 Z28 Died on me......HELP!
Alright, on my way to work yesterday, everything was normal, get about a mile down the road and the car just dies, kinda like if your batt died or something but still had power, tried to get it to pushstart itself by throwing it in 3rd but wouldnt, pulled over and it started up, okay, so I said, its fine. took off about 5 secs later dies again but wouldnt start at all. Pushed it to a gas station, put some gas in, still no start. Checked my fuses, check the coil for spark, was sparking, then I checked the fuel, pulled the fuel lines off the rail and turned the key on, plenty of fuel. Okay so still no start, even sprayed carb cleaner in it to test fuel again. Well then I pull a plug wire and turn the car over, no spark from the wires. So later that night I pull the distributor, put a new dist on it and it does the same thing, still no start. I put the bottom part but not the cap and rotor, cap and rotor is fairly new, plus I dont think that would stop it from sparking. So now not sure wat is wrong, maybe the crank sensor or something or what the hell, know its not getting spark out of the opti but is into it. But after it died the first time, came back hours later and it started right up, once I reved it, it died. Then no start, did the same thing for a sec this morning, any ideas. Sorry the ****s so long.
Pretty cut and dry
So if I understand you, 1) you moved the old cap and rotor to a new back.
2) you have spark at the coil but not coming out of the distributor.
Explain this, when you changed the back half of the distributor and then put the old cap and rotor on it. Did you look at the rotor and the inside of the cap? If number 2 above, could only be cap or rotor. Unless for some dumb reason, all the wires are bad. Or you used a bad plug to find you have no spark.
Did you miss something in the translation?

Well I put the old cap and rotor on, I looked at them before installing them and nothing seemed bad on them, no bad points or corrosion. My plugs are good for all I know, getting spark out of the coil to the distributor. Maybe it could be the cap and rotor but I dont see how Id get no spark at all, one should atleast spark.

But why don't you tell us the exact method you used for checking spark at the coil and then out of the distributor to EACH plug.
