95 ZR28 lt1 Crank no start
95 ZR28 lt1 Crank no start
Hey guys I have a 95 Chevy Camaro ZR28 lt1 and it of course cranks and no start it has fuel pressure going to the fuel rails it has spark and good timing I have replaced the fuel pump the optispark and the coil and wires it won't start but if I put some starting fluid into the throttle body it will start for a second then instantly die. Any thoughts?
Re: 95 ZR28 lt1 Crank no start
Is the “SECURITY” light on? If the PCM doesn’t get a “fuel enable” signal from the PASS-Key II system (VATS) it shuts down the fuel system. Since you have spark, appears it's a fuel problem.
Have you actually measured the fuel pressure?
Have you scanned for codes? DTC 46 indicates there is no fuel enable signal.

Re: 95 ZR28 lt1 Crank no start
Sure, turn the key to “RUN” and the pump primes for 2 seconds, sending fuel to the rails. And then it shuts down. Completely normal.
When you advance the key to “START” the fuel pump will not restart until the PASSKey II system sends the “fuel enable” signal to the PCM. The fact that the “SECURITY” light is on may indicate there is a defect causing it NOT to send the fuel enable system. The starter will crank the engine, but it will not start without the fuel enable signal, because the PCM won't restart the pump.
You didn’t answer the question about having checked the PCM for codes. Scanning it will tell you whether the PCM is receiving the fuel enable signal. I'll assume you haven’t checked for codes.
What diagnostic work, if any, led you to replace all those expensive parts?
Additionally you can’t assume the fuel pressure is adequate when the pump primes, unless you actually measure the pressure and it is at least 40 PSI. Very easy to attach a fuel pressure test gauge with a long hose and the correct -AN fitting to the Schrader pressure valve. The test gauge/hose will have a pin that depresses the valve core so it can get a pressure reading. Much more accurate than pressing the valve and having fuel squirt out.

Typical “one and done” new member. Posts a request for help, gets responses that require additional info, came back a month after the 9/21 responses, offered no response to the requests.
