95 z28 LT1 randomly stalls when warm

I have a 95 z28 LT1 an it's randomly stalling only when warm so far. It has also thrown a 16 an 36 code. A low and high pulse resolution failure. It has a new fuel filter and new vacuum lines. Any ideas before I spend hundreds of dollars to throw parts at it ?? Thanks in advance.

Manual or auto trans? Under what conditions does it stall - sitting at idle (in gear, in neutral, or both, if automatic?), coming to a stop, randomly, all of the above?

Is the engine stock or modified? If modified, what has been done to it? How many miles on it? Does it idle smoothly except when it stalls, or rough all the time? What is the normal idle speed? After it stalls, does it restart easily?

It is an automatic. It is a 95 with 62,000 miles, an it happens when im coming to a stop sign rolling. An happened 1 time when I was putting it in park stopped. Both when it was warm though. And it's bone stock except for a new Accel distributor thanks for the reply

First, let's take care of some "housekeeping" to help you get the best results on this site:

You posted on "Advanced Tech".... not the correct forum. In fact there are two "sticky" posts warning you not to post most topics there. I'll move your thread to "LT1 Based Engine Tech"".

Please do not use the "REPORT" button to respond to a post. That is there to report abuse, or not permitted topics like politics, religion, racial or ethnic slurs, language not conforming to PG-13, etc. It sends an email notice to all the Moderators, and they will come and look over the post to see what is wrong.

Nate Napier ( mailto:*********@gmail.com ) has reported this post:

This is the reason that the user gave:

And it's bone stock other than plug wires and an accell distributor an rotor button.

Re: 95 z28 LT1 randomly stalls when warm

Did you replace the ACCEL distributor (Optispark) in an attempt to cure the stalling problem? Or was it replaced BEFORE the stalling problem? Did you have the DTC 16 and DTC 36 codes before or after replacing the Opti? Did you examine the short Opti harness for damaged insulation, bent or corroded pins on the harness connector?

Unfortunately the ACCEL Opti, like most of what's out there, is not particularly reliable. What do you mean by adding “an(d) rotor button”? If you bought a complete unit it would include the full housing, the cap, the rotor and the optical cam position sensor module. Or did you just buy a peplacement cap and rotor?

OP

As mentioned the Accel Opti and the other store brand optis have proven not to be very reliable. Unfortunately there is really no brand that has great consistency other than failing. Given you do have Opti related codes that is a likely suspect.

With the car running at operating temp wiggle and pull on the harness that goes into opti and also where it joins the main wiring harness on PS of motor. Sometimes that connection area of harness can be intermittent. If the car stalls as a result than replacing that harness is advised. OPTI | IW

If this problem occurred "after" the Accel Opti was installed that is the most likely problem. If it did the same thing before than more likely outside of the Opti so do the wire wiggle test to see if it is that harness

Other possible, although they don't throw opti codes, is ICM fail which is common when motor warms up but generally the car will not restart after until the car cools

IAC solenoid sticking is a possibility but again with Opti codes it points more toward opti or harness
