95 Trans Swap
95 Trans Swap
I have a 95 Z28 with LT1 and Auto
Looking to put a 6 speed in it
Just happen to found a 94 with LT1 and a 6 Speed
My queistion is
Is there any reson the parts from the 94 will not work on my 95?
It is a complete runing and driving car--- 55,000 miles on motor and tranny I can get the car for what I am seeing just the 6 speed (t56) are going for
Any feedback will be very helpfull
Thanks

Re: 95 Trans Swap
A 94 T56 setup will be a direct bolt-in on your 95. Having a donor car makes the most sense, because you will have access to the flywheel, clutch, clutch hydraulics, cross-member, console, pedals, shifter, torque arm mount, etc. You will have to have your 95 PCM reflashed with an M6 program.
What rear axle does your A4 have? It is either a 2.73:1 (RPO code GU2) or a 3.23:1 (GU5). All the M6 cars from 94 on up came with 3.42:1 rear axle, so if you have the 2.73 gears, you will want to upgrade the rear axle ratio.

Not sure about the 94 Doner dont have it here at home
Can I just change out the 3rd Member for it to match up??
Re: 95 Trans Swap
If the 94 had the M6 from the factory, and no one changed it out, it will be a 3.42:1 (GU6) limited slip.
There is no "third member" in the sense of the Ford 9-inch. You would have to pull the cover, pull the ring and pinion, and have someone set it up in your housing. Trying to set used gears up "noise free" is very difficult, even for a pro. If the rear axle assembly in the donor 94 is in decent shape, swap the entire rear axle assembly. The possible complication here is whether your 95 is "ABS (only)" or "ABS + Traction Control". Traction control was not available in 94, so the rear axle will have a single wheel speed sensor on top of the differential housing. If your 95 has traction control (RPO "NW9", an ugly black box sitting on the driver side valve cover, and a switch on the dash to turn it off) it requires a sensor on each end of the axle housing.
