Question 95' TA... Lack of power and backfiring

Just a few days ago my friend took his 1995 Trans Am out of storage after a long winter hibernation. All was good until the car started to have difficulties starting, it would let out small backfires and there is a total lack of power when you go WOT. He thought that the ignition was the culprit so he had the Opti, wires and plugs changed. This did nothing to alleviate the problem. I had a spare 1996 LT1 MAF lying around so we swapped that but it still showed the same problem. I know I’m not giving you guys much to go by, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

BTW, the car is a 95’ and he insists that it’s an OBDII, I say it’s an OBDI. Who is correct? Also are would the MAF’s be interchangeable?
