95 opti spark on a 94 (no spark)

We just got the project car (94 Camaro) together and are using the opti spark off of a 95. We have not sent the PCM out to get programmed for the new combo yet, so it is setup for a basically stock configuration.

Is it possible that the problem is because the computer doesn't recognize the signal from the 95 opti spark because it is still programed for use with the stock (94) setup? I am asking because I know that the 95 opti spark is different from the 94 opti spark.

Please do not reply with suggestions on the "no spark" problem. We know what to look for but before I go any further with troubleshooting I need to know if the 95 opti spark is the problem with the stock programmed 94 PCM.

Thanks.

So I guess you are using the 95 timing cover, too? You couldn't put the 95 opti on without it. Did you change the opti electrical harness to the 95 as well? The 94 harness connector at the opti is too short.

There is nothing in the PCM that tells it what year opti it is. An opti is an opti as far as it is concerned.

Since you don't want any other 'advice'... the short answer to the question is... no... [94 & 95 opti are the 'same', as far as the PCM is concerned..]

As Shoebox mentioned, your problem is more than likely the wiring harness that plugs into the opti. You need to replace it with a 95 harness.
