Did you read the timing retard with a scanner? How much knock retard are you getting?

Do you have any codes? DTC 43 for the knock sensor will cause the PCM to use a calculation based on engine operating conditions to pull a variable amount of timing (up to a 15-deg max) at virtually all times.
