94 Z28 losing power when in gear.

Hello all I'm new here. I always find the most help from the pros and experienced owners online. I recently bought a 94 Z28 for $1200 figured I couldn't go wrong for that price but the car did have some issues. When I purchased the car the owner claimed it had a bad transmission also stated it would heat up here and there.. The engine seemed to run fine and I didn't hear no knocks and the oil was fine. Well when I drove it on the trailer it lacked power, I thought that to be odd. So my first thought was the torque converter was bad so I ordered a new one (not here yet). Well during my pondering and overlooking the car I started the car let the temp rise to the first line and decided to drive it down the road about 100 feet. Well my results from that was it lacked power badly and the temp jumped up quick. Like I said the oil was clean and it does smoke a little when started and blows some water out(I figured to be condensation). I'm thinking if its head gasket it would be blowed between a water journal and a cylinder and possibly between two cylinders due to lack of power. I already purchased a head gasket set and plan on having the heads resurfaced. Also going to do a EGR delete and make sure all vacuum lines are factory routed. And of course plugs and wires. Regardless I am still going to replace head gasket if that's the cause or not just to feel better about it. My question is does this sound about right of what the problem is? And what have others experienced with this type of issue.

Thanks in advance for any and all replys.

Here is a video not a great one but can kinda give you a idea of how it runs.

Stock torque converter in it now, or possibly a high stall?

Scan if for codes. The electronically controlled 4L60E can set a number of trouble codes, and they don't turn on the SES light.

Check the coolant for the presence of hydrocarbons. How hot (in degrees) did it get when you took the 100-ft drive?

Im not sure of the torque converter looks stock. No decals or performance stamps on it. It got up a tad past the third line.(it jumped up quick). It has a new thermostat in it tho. I believe the guy I got it from tried to crass some wires going to the fan motors(they turn on as soon as ignition is turned on) I assume that may have been the cause of the overheating but I think the damage has already been done to the headgasket. I will look in radiator for carbon or bubbles. And let you know. Many people are not fond of the fan motor relays are actually in the fan motor itself at least in the v6 they are. I'm in a debate with myself asking how can you mess a transmission up when you don't have a good running engine to do it. Tho I hear lack of power from engine will cause the transmission to slip.

OK just started it up. The radiator smells like fuel and it is bubbling like crazy. The water level was low just like everything else. I think the transmission is fine. Just hoping to get lucky and not find a cracked head.
