94 z28 Chokes/hesitates at 1-2 rpms??

Only does it after the car warms up.
Sometimes it wont do it at all
It drives perfect on the freeway has never died
Sometimes at a dead stop the idle will go up and down from 1-2 rpms
and then after the car warms up it will hesitate from 1-2 rpms.
once it gets above 2 rpms it doesnt hesitate at all
My mechanic said Idle Control Valve is dirty?
What do you guys think?
has 70,xxx original miles and i just changed the fuel filter oil and tranny oil
havent checked the spark plugs yet.
I also just bought this car 2 months ago.

I would try the IAC valve first. It won't hurt cleaning it and it definitely could be the problem. If thats not it, I would definitely look at the ICM next since this happens when theres heat in the negine. The ICM is known for getting hot and not working sometimes since it sits right next to the heads. People usually put a few washers in between the head and the ICM which helps. I would do it anyway to extend the life of the ICM.

If you have access to a scanner see what counts you get for the IAC stepper motorr, that'll help diagnose the issue. If not, you can clean the system but there is one caveat....the cleaner can carry gunk into the motor yourslef if you don't do it right. I'd recommend removing the TB and then removing the IAC motor. Clean the passages in the TB using a teflon coating safe cleaner. Hold the motor with the pintle downward so the gunk drips away from the motor and spray away....using a electrical contact cleaner. You can spray up into the motor and keep going until the liguid runs clear.

Good luck!

i just did this on my spare throttle body, it come off a 66k mile engine, the throttle body and iac were very nasty, alot of build up on both..
i used brake cleaner and just as bw_hunter said, i pointed the pluger towards the ground and sprayed it until it came clean.. the throttle body was nasty also, i used brake parts cleaner and a small brass wire brush and cleaned it good also..
