the tail pipes are covered in black soot, it smells like unburnt gas in the car and I have a CES light. Since I cant blink the codes and there is no shop close by with an obd1 scanner I was thinking of buying summits code blinker obd1 scanner that is @$30. Has anyone used one of these? Im guessing its a coil, ECM or 02 sensors but the codes will hopefully diagnose it for me. This is whats happening,,, the car idles okay and when driving light on the gas its okay except the ocassional hesitation coming out of first,, when I floor it the car will sometimes run fine till about 3800rpm and then start bucking and breaking up, other times it bucks immediatley when gas pedal is depressed. She is also shooting black smoke out the tail pipes under exceleration. The CES light comes on a few seconds after the car is started and stays on. If not this cheap scanner what do you recommend? thanks

 

That scanner will not work with your 94.

Try unplugging one of the O2s and see what happens then with regard to running condition.
