93 LT1 Oil Pressure Question

i recently bought 93 camaro i was wondering about the oil pressure its at idle the gauge sits around 60-80 psi with 10-40w. Is this good for a engine with 131,000 because i wanted to know is it a possibility that the engine has been swapped out?

Sounds more like the oil pressure gauge is faulty. Have you checked the sending unit and harness?

I'll move this to "LT1 Based Engine Tech"..... this isn't an "Advanced Tech" question.

ok, the sending unit is new and the gauge seems to work correctly. What is considered normal?

I think 60 - 80 at idle is a bit high, should be closer to 40 psi, according to GM factory specs for an LT1: oil pressure should be at 6 psi at 1,000 rpm; 18 psi @ 2,000 & 24 psi @ 4,000 rpm - at operating temperature

The GM spec for 6psi is the minimum acceptable pressure, and probably the set point for the "check gauges" light to come on. I suspect most new LT1's would have idled at 30-35psi. There's a 60psi relief spring in the pump, so pressure should never exceed 60psi.

The average idle pressure for the LT1 is around 20 psi. The oil that Chevy recommends for the LT1 is 5W-30. Change it and see if your pressure gets back to spec.....If you have 60-80 psi at idle....something is wrong.

my oil pressure on my 93 Z would hardly drop below half way point warm and cold was about 80. Whoever saw this was suprised and couldnt figure it out. Ive had several mechanics look at it and the oil pressure unit was working just fine i even had it replaced just in case.

The oil gauge on my car reads about 56-58psi while I'm driving and about 25-30 at idle. Using 10W-30. Idk if that's normal or helps at all.

I have high pressure, but i run a mellings select pump that is 10 % higher volume. I also run 15-50 Mobil 1. Mine around idle is 30 psi.
