93 Lt1 Firebird Update To 94 And Newer
93 Lt1 Firebird Update To 94 And Newer
I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what would be involved to change over a 93 firebird lt1 from speeddensity to mass air flow?
My guess is that you would have to change the computer and wiring harness and add a mass air flow sensor but Im not to sure if it is all that easy to do and also the availability of the pieces.
I do live in Canada (just f.y.i)
Thanks for the help
Dave

Re: 93 Lt1 Firebird Update To 94 And Newer
Well you got part of the hardware right. You would have to change out the intake elbows to and from the air filter because of the MAF. The O2s are different, the 93 is one wire (un heated) and the 94 and up are 4 wire (heated).
The intake and fuel system are slightly different but not sure it would have to change. But in 94, when the injection system went from batch fired in 93 to sequential, the injectors went from 22# to 24# to account for the fact that they were only firing once per 4 stroke cycle. So the injectors should be changed also.
Obviously the PCM would have to change but the hardest part of the change is going to be changing the harness. Particularly where it meets up with the cross car harness under the dash. If you plan on modding the car for performance upgrades in the future, you may decide to stay with the speed density system. Many Hi-po systems use the speed density algorithm. It may be since the engine gets to the point it is breathing so much, the MAF begins to be an intake restriction. However, the sequential fired injector system is better than the batch fired system but that can be changed easy enough.
