pulling motor soon, q's on buildup order

Around april time frame I will be pulling the LT1 for a major rebuild. I don't think i will have too much trouble pulling the motor out but i have a few questions pertaining to labor/do it yourself stuff.
I will be sending away the motor for bottem end for the crank, rods, pistions install(383 wtht 8.4-8.5:1 compression) with 4bolt splayed mains.
Is it easy to dissasemble/remove the internal components?(crank, etc...)
When i send it away to get a rebuild do i need to have my new cam installed before i send it to them? it is going to be a small 218/218 .600 lift turbo cam.
Should i have my new timimg chain on there?
For all of the do-it-yourselfers that had engine work done only on the bottem end, how did the whole process go/work out with the shop?
Thanks for yourtime,
Tony

Once the engine is out of the car and on an engine stand, it's very easy to disassemble everything.
You don't need to put the cam in, it will be removed anyway for cam bearings installation at the shop. Check with them if they prefer the cam to be supplied for them to verify cam to rod clearance, otherwise you should install the cam and degree it.

Very smooth for the most part. Except for a small timing chain issue and problems with the polylocks, everything went together fine. The shop I used was great. They do top notch work! Just expect it to take longer than you think and cost more than you figured on.

Launch 1 Motorworks here in southern Indiana. It was $600.00 for assembley and clearencing. Machine work was $900.00 (that included the 4 bolt splayed main conversion).
