93 ICM or?

Hi,
New member, not sure what to post under..
My 93, 6sp..went to start...started but started puking black smoke, cooling fans are now coming on k.o.e.o. ,,a/c stopped, speedo quit,,ran rough then quit...would start but w/same prob. Couldn't pull codes..not even a 12..
Rapped on ecm and car started and ran fine for a few..died out..did pull a 61 code before car quit..
Sent ecm to a co. Called a.e.s. to test...tech said they put new circuit board in. Tech said prom chip fried..installed ecm. In car.. No help..
Got spark,correct fuel pressure,
Probed ICM ..11vdc@ term a ..11@ term d.. Continuity good on c..
Term b had .236vac...shbox says 1 to 4 v
Replaced opti. W/chandler and new harness..opti. Capnrotor were wasted..vent holes were clogged up..the disks were corroded.

Has anyone used automotive. Electronic solutions to repair ecm?
Has anyone had a. Chandler opti be junk out of box?
Not sure where to start eliminating functioning systems after fuel and spark..
I have had car since 98...210,000 miles ,, all stock
Anyone suspect cam or timing chain or?
All input is welcome and appreciated

Re: 93 ICM or?

Can you pull codes from the repaired ECM?

Chandler is toward the bottom of the list on reliability.

Let's move this to "LT1 Based Engine Tech".

Re: 93 ICM or?

What system is switching both of my fans on ......key in run position,,engine off,,
This seems to be where my malfunction is originating..
Also ,what would cause the ecu not to flash anything at all when attempting to pull codes?

Thanks'.....

Re: 93 ICM or?

Many trouble codes will cause the ECM to run the coolant fans full time.

Have you EVER been able to pull codes by shorting the ALDL pins?

Re: 93 ICM or?

Yes this z has been rock solid for me since 98,, a/c delco opti, ICM are only ign components that were ever replaced,, (2007). I usually change plugs n wires every other year....( every 20,000 miles or so).
This is not a race car to me,,it is my daily driver..
If something failed, I had it repaired. I wanted it to stay stock as possible.
The only code I ever pulled was 61..
Car has never sat,is mostly garage kept, and driven daily.

Injuneer,
Thanks for all of your input to me and all who you have helped get their ride running like it should..
Time is valuable, and after searching for answers for my problem, I have noticed your input and knowledge of these camaros is very true and straight toward..
Until I get ecm to flash, I am not sure where to begin
I don't want to start pulling stuff w/out understanding how it works on car
I am going to try and study all of the info on the site and clear one system at a time

Car has almost all else as original equipment
210,000 miles is great for as little as that has went bad( beside 2clutches, brakes, rotors, tires)
Anyone who can add input it is very welcome
Thanks again

Re: 93 ICM or?

It is very seldom a problem with the ECM, but this one sure sounds suspicious.

Where are you located? There's a shop in North Carolina that is pretty good with the 93 ECM's:

PCM Tuning, GM Performance

Also found this with a quick search:
