'93 to '94 ignition
Re: '93 to '94 ignition
The use of the “Chip” tuning is not dictated by the 1993 LT1 “ignition”. In fact, other than the location of the tachometer drive, the 93 ignition differs little from later year LT1’s.
The chip is part of the ECM = Engine Control Module = “computer” that manages the engine spark and fuel. 93 was the only 4th Gen with the ECM. Later years have a PCM = Powertrain Control Module = “computer” that manages not only the engine, but also the transmission.
Basically, you would need to replace the 93 ECM with a 94/95 OBD-1 PCM, that is flash tuned. But there would be interface problems. You would also need the engine wiring harness from a 94 LT1. You would need to add a mass air flow (MAF) sensor, or have the 94/95 PCM to run in speed-density mode. You would have to address things like a different harness connector for the 93 idle air control (IAC) motor. Then convert to 4-wire O2 sensors, upgrade to 24#/HR fuel injectors, or have the PCM programmed for the 93 22# injectors. All transmission controls would have to be “programmed out” of the PCM. Then you would need to address all the differences in the interfaces of the body wiring harness and engine harness. These are just the things I can think of at the moment - I'm sure there are things I'm missing.
That's just scratching the surface. And good luck finding a tuner who can flash the 94/95 PCM. I'm only aware of one who has the skills required for a good tune. Have you checked into “PCM of NC” (PCM of North Carolina) for chip tuning? I've referred people there in the past, and have never had any negative feedback.

Re: '93 to '94 ignition
No. I have not checked W/ N.C. yet.
I did not realize that the conversion was going to be this involved.
Perhaps there is a better way to "modernize" this ignition system.
Thank you for this info, and good luck with your surgery!
