comp needs to come out with a thinner locator just for us LT1 guys so we can run .600 lift with no problems.
I used the parts combo motorsports sold me for .568 lift:

Comp CC-795-16 retainers
CC-4705-16 locaters
CC-613-16 locks

With these parts and 26918 springs I got a 1.675 installed height. I bet I would have been ok with stock locaters, but they told me I couldnt use them. They said the comp locaters had to be used with the LT1 heads.

If you guys are buying new parts, consider buying my 18 mile parts. All you have to do is buy one new locater (unless you use the stockers, lol), one new retainer, and two new locks. Less than half price.

Here is the way I read the chart. The actual coil bind is 1.085". If you add the .060" recomended clearance that works out to 1.145" or about the 1.150" on the chart. That is also the lowest number listed for the poundage. I'm at 1.170" so I'm in good shape with my XFI cam.

I'd buy those except I want the +.05 locks and can't find any single locators or retainers. Maybe you should just buy some and sell it as a complete set.

Thank you bluecamaroz28, that's what my math was coming out to. Anyone that can back this up?

The way I set my heads up are 918 springs with 4705 locators and a .050 taller retainer. When you check the installed height you find its short. That wont hury much if your running a cam smaller the .570 lift. Over that it will get close to Coil bind.

comps pn on the locks is.... 249-614-16, 24.99 from jegs
10 degree? The comp guys sold me on the 7 degree 787 retainers. Am I setting myself up for trouble?
I've got 918 springs on LT1 stock Heads, plan on using the stock locators unless I can't, I can mill them out if I have to, and the stock locks. My lift is .577.
The +.05 locks mentioned above are 10 degree. Are there 7 degree +.05 locks and will I need them?

7 degree is fine. Have never lost one yet and been on my daily driver high 10's car for over 3 years. The other 5 engines did not loose a lock

Re: 918 springs on LT1 heads

Will I be able to reach 1.75 spring height using the 787 retainers and stock locks? Or must I have the +.05 Locks to get it? 918 Springs.

I would say, get yourself some peace of mind for less than $300 and you will be at 1.8" installed hight, good for 0.600" lift. I ordered these from Summit.

CCA-26918-16 Valve Springs $179.95
CCA-614-16 Valve Locks, 10 Degree, + .050 in. Installed Ht. $25.95
795-16 Valve Spring Retainers, 10 Degree $49.99
4705-16 Valve Spring Locators, $39.99

Do you have to mill out the stock locators? I thought you could just pry them out.

Re: 918 springs on LT1 heads

NO, I mean I could mill the locater THINNER so that the spring height would be more. Don't pay to much attention to this aspect at this point it's only speculation. I haven't removed the Springs yet to see what would be required. I'm waiting for the valve seals to be shipped so I don't have to do it twice.

I couldn't find 7Degree Valve Locks with + .050 in. Installed Ht. At any rate, 10 deg locks are stronger.

seawolf06,

New spring cups will have to replace older seats.

Re: 918 springs on LT1 heads

The dude at Combination Motorsports just told me that many guys don't use the locators with the springs and this way thier able to reach a spring height closer to 1.8.

Deal or no Deal?

I'd rather buy a complete set.

Bluecamaroz28,
what are spring cups?

Is it hard to replace the valve seals while doing all of this? Is it worth the money? Sorry if that's a little off topic, but it was mentioned, so I wanted to know.

Re: 918 springs on LT1 heads

Valve seals $20-25. My engine has 100K so it's a no brainer for me. Pretty easy as well. Pliers take them off, lightly tap with a deep dish socket to put them on.
shbox has a great website with details.
