If you have .595 lift and assume the spring won't perform past 1.15, then you're looking at an install height of 1.745 or larger. (1.15 + .595 = 1.745).

Thomas.
Ok my 987's are set at 1.800 right now, so if I drop the 918s and set them at 1.800 and the bind at 1.150 that will give me .650 from open till coil bind, which is a little tight but doable as optimum would be .655 (.595+.060 clearance at full lift) Is my math here correct or am I completeley missing something here? I though comp figured a .060 clearance when giving what the spring was rated at lift wise??? Looking at the chart comp gives the 918's have a larger range that the 987's, now I am confused. It shows install height up to 1.850 for both and the 987 coil binding at 1.200 while the 918's go to 1.15. I had my heads cut for the springs when I put them on and I know for a fact @ 1.800 we had lift plus .060 me and the machinist were doing the math and tried several different springs to see what would work best. He had a set of crane beehives that we tried but they wouldn't take the lift.

For Josh I don't see how the 918's would be a problem at 600 lift or less, do you have a link to your kaboom thread??

Re: 918 spring question

truedualws6 has a thread on beehives with all the part numbers, installed heights, etc. do a search that's what I went off of when I set mine up. lol i'd still be clueless about them if I hadn't used the SEARCH.

The problem is they don't drop in and measure the same installed height. Different retainers change the installed height a ton.

795-16 steel retainers,
614-16 locks (+.050)
4705-16 spring seats

I would think this setup is safe to .560" lift with just about any off the
shelf hyd roller you can throw at it. Maybe Bret can chime in with a bit
more detail on this.
That was done already.... I don't wanna say it but was that not idiot proof for ya? ;-)

Sorry I though that was just for stock heads. I am just making sure that will work with heads that have been machined for the larger springs, thanks for the help.
