70psi oil pres at startup on new motor, is this way too much?

I know the tighter clearances will cause higher oil presure, but when this thing is started cold it gets up to about 70 psi of oil pressure.

After a little bit it chills out and goes back to normal (around 45psi)

What do you guys think

It is a M155 standard pres and standard volume pump with the gm white relife spring.

thanks,
james

What weight and type of oil ??? What's the oil temp when cold (first started)? As Nomad said...chances are you are fine, but you will want to weigh these things into the equation.

Pretty normal for cold oil. I would be happy with that.

I would be afraid of 100 psi but 70 sounds very healthy to me.
