7 Codes?!?!?! Help needed

I took my car, (97 LT1), by the dealer today because my SES Light was on. They were willing to scan it for free and provide me with the codes, but they wouldn't tell me what each meant without charging me for it.

This is what I got:

P0141
P0161
P0300
P0410
P0420
P1415
P1416

I used www.autotap.com to find out what each code meant and this is what I found:

P0141: HO2S Heater Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 2
P0161: HO2S Heater Circuit Bank 2 Sensor 2
P0300: Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0410: Secondary Air Injection System
P0420: Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

The next 2 codes had multiple descriptions, so I don't know which ones apply:

P1415: AIR System Bank 1 or Secondary Air Injection [AIR] System Bank 1 or Air Pump Circuit

P1416: AIR System Bank 2 or Secondary Air Injection [AIR] System Bank 2 or Port Air Circuit

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to fix these? Could it be one thing that is causing all of this, or is it multiple things?

Any help is appreciated!

All I have is a Magnaflow Cat back system and a CAI. The engine has 65k miles on it and the Opti spark was replaced a year ago.

Re: 7 Codes?!?!?! Help needed

i've frequently seen one problem cause a number of codes, and its aparent when the codes are related

the air injection system is not only used to supply air for catalyst efficiency
but can also be used for secondary combustion in the manifold to heat up the o2 sensors as well as the cat

through reason i believe that u need to inspect your air system, and any fault in that system would resolve all the codes except the misfire

i'm not sure if a malfunction in the air system could cause a misfire and it could be a one time deal

There was a service bulletin regarding the operation of the AIR system. I believe they removed a solenoid and a vacuum line and reprogramed teh PCM.(Not realy sure exactly what they did, but its somthing to that effect) If it was done there should be a connector near the AIR pump loose with a cap on it. Or you could ask the dealer if they have records of your cars VIN. Just an idea, might give it a try.

Something is wrong with your AIR system(obviously) intern its most likely affecting your 02's and your cats. Perhaps whats happening with the misfire is it has caused such a lean condition its cuasing your injectors to inject too much fuel wich might explain the random multiple misfire.

While at least 3 of the codes are related to the AIR system, its not likely to cause the rest. 2 of the O2 sensor codes are for a faulty heater circuit. Could be the fuse that supplies 12V to both sensors.

Your description of the AIR system is OK for the 3rd Gens, where the AIR pump runs all the time, first injecting air into the exhaust manifolds to heat up the cats, then switching so the air is injected into the catalytic convertor between the reducing and oxidizing beds. In the 4th Gens, the AIR pump only runs for a couple minutes at startup to heat the cats. Then it turns off, and doens't usually run again. The 4th Gen cat does not require the air injection to operate correctly.

Excuse my mechanical stupidity, but what is the air injection system? Not really following what everyone is talking about.

O.K. Just had Auto Zone check the codes again, and all they got where 2 codes:

P0410: Secondary Air Injection System
P0420: Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

How could the other 5 codes just disappear????

Re: 7 Codes?!?!?! Help needed

A faulty alternator can cause the PCM to go "wacky" and do all kinds of strange seemingly unrelated things. If the diodes are leaking AC beyond the alternator, it can do several things. The way to eliminate the alternator as the cause of the problem, use a multimeter set to AC and measure from the output of the alternator to negative terminal of the battery. You want to read 0.03 VAC or less. Any more can be a cause damage to the PCM.

Because autzones scanner is ****ty trust me i work there. They can go unseen if the car goes through three drive cycles and the problem doesnt occur the light will go off for that problem, but the PCM will still store the code for 40 warm up cycles. Go to a dealer or a qualified tech and get them to check it out. They will probably also be able to bring up some specialty codes that might help you as well.
