Is a 600plus horsepower engine good enough 4??
Re: Is a 600plus horsepower engine good enough 4??
If I had enough loose change to build a 600 HP camaro for the street, I would use the money to buy a turbo porshe or maybe build up a twin-turbo Supra.
Using 3500 lb+ platform to mount an Lt1 with that much HP, would, in my opionion, be a mega waste. JMHO

Re: Is a 600plus horsepower engine good enough 4??
Is all good They told for 7k they would build me a 600 horsepower engine. You figure 2k for the rearend. thats 9k right there. Labor, tuning, etc, etc it's roughly a 15k project. Not so bad.
Re: Is a 600plus horsepower engine good enough 4??
^what he said. The only one I've heard of on here is "Mindgame". He makes somewhere around ~550 rwhp, and I think he uses 18* heads. No aftermarket 18* heads are available for the LT1 that I know of, so its a custom job. Its certainly badass, but it certainly didnt cost $7k either.
For $7k, I would say that you could probably build a nice stroker motor that would make around 420-460 rwhp NA...
Include the rear in that figure, and that pretty much restricts you to a budget 355 making perhaps ~400rwhp.

Well for the Supra Guys wondering...the quickest Supra in the Midwest and possibly the country was at Byron Last weekend...2000+ Hp on 40PSI and Spray. Car ran an 8.79 @160. That was spinning out of the hole real bad. Car has a Giant Single and a TH-400 with a brake and all. Car has seen an 8.50 if I'm not mistaken. He *could* also drive it daily with the boost turned WAY down. He drives it on the street with 17" drag radials. Just to give you an Idea of what it takes to get a Supra near as fast as the quickest LT1...

Sounds like a big dreamer to me....and whats with 50k?! that thing better be running 8's, and show winner ready! Givin someone 7k and tellin them to give me this or that....doesn't sound like much fun to me. anyone with money can do that. Do it yourself with 7k i'll have a lot of respect for you even if it only runs 11's.
Re: Is a 600plus horsepower engine good enough 4??
600 plus horsepower should be enough for the street. I currently have a lt1 camaro with bolt ons, stock heads, gear, and lt4 hot cam and havent lost a race yet. All my races been neck to neck. I think my car only has about 310 at the wheels. So with that in mind 600hp with around 500 or so at the wheels should be hardly unbeaten around my area. - Mike

600rwhp=
Widh 275/35-18 street tires on its totally useless on the streets, but its fun
... Widh M/T ETstreets 11.5*26-15 its much better but even if i warm they good i cant hook them good on 1st and 2nd on the streets...(A4)
How it feels? amazing
(in the beginning) When you should pass onother car on the higway you gotta change lane first and then floor it...
Gonna install new shocks and springs in front this winter so maybee it will hook better next season...
And as someone wrote earlier, when you get there you want more after some time
And i shouldnt wanna have 4.10 and a M6... Have a friend whose around 750fwhp in an M6 3:73 and its a lot of gearing... Yea i know you dont need to use all of them but hoe easy is it to shift fast 2->4->6...
