FWIW.. 500hp NA isn't too bad on a stock displacement shortblock, it just takes a killer topend to do it & keep it driveable .
Id love to hear them phil (not being sarcastic)

other than to meet class rules obviously

it just requires badass heads..........and our LTX's have very limited head choices.

if someone could get a good price on converting regular sbc heads to reverse flow cooling so they fit out LT1's, then it opens up a whole lot more power for us.

for $1999 complete (springs, locks, retainers, valves) brodix makes a set of 18* heads that work with regular 23* valvetrain components. (but you still need a modified intake manifold and roller rockers.)
they flow 320cfm out of the box, and with porting much more.
the low/mid lift on these completely destroy any numbers from well ported LT4's, and better than AFR's too.

but i guess converting heads to fit the LT1 is a major expense?

i dont know, youd be hard pressed to be limited by a set of AFR220's and a quality port job.

there are cars pushing over 900hp on LT1 castings (not NA)

i know someone personally pushing 700+ rwhp on one with a blower

hey 396,383,409 lt1 are great if thats your deal I personal rather have less amount of torque down low that way you are constently getting wheel spin off the line. I know so one will say I have a stroker and it dead hooks. well come to houston I will give you a whole box of freaken cookies. I rather scream up top. as of 8000 plus rpms. I even was tring earlier to find a smaller crank the 3.48 some but I failed to find it.

thats atleast $3500+ worth of head!

those brodix18* flow 320 out of the box and cost $1999.

but im guessing the other $1500 you save is atleast what it costs to make them fit our LTX motor, and have the intake modified.

either way, you spend a buttload of money.

if you want 500 rwhp from a 350 you need AFR's alteast 195's fully ported by a very good head porter. A sheetmetal intake ($2800 from hogans or moreperformance). 215cc raised runner heads only cost a few hundred more then 195's and can flow 330+cfm.. why not you need a sheetmetal intake anyway. how about some tuned headers?(hookers,+4-2-1 collector). thats a pretty expencive top end package. you can prolly make 500 with a hyd roller but if you gonna spend this kinda money just get a set of shaft rockers, awesome springs, solid lifters w/ a solid cam. oh dont forget a rev kit..
