#5 wire arcing at the opti

Ok so I am back with a new problem. After my new water pump and hoses I now have an arcing problem from wire #5 where it plugs into the opti. I never had this problem before I changed my pump and wires. The edge of the plug where the wire hooks up to the opti feels rougher than the rest. I have the taylor wire kit that you build youself. I went through and redid all of the ends on the left side of the opti to no effect. Now I am asking for suggestions. The opti is maybe 2 months old. Thanks

Are you sure the wire is "seated" all the way, should feel/hear a definite click? Did you use a dialectric grease on the boots?

look at it in the dark.....see where the fire is coming from, the boot the cap or the wire....and go from there, could it have a split boot or a cut wire?

I have seen all of those, people pull the boot with spark plug pliers and poke a hole in the boot

Yes I used dielectric grease and I did look at it in the dark. The spark is coming from the boot. The thing is for some reason this boot does not feel like it seats as well as the other ones do. I don't get that same click. When I pull the plug wires I can normally get them with my hands. Thanks guys

pull it off and take a look at that boot. The wire could have slid out of the boot some

I already did. As a matter of fact I completely rebuilt the wires on the left side. I need some new clips for my ends now.

Rather than going to all that trouble possibly for nothing, why not try swapping in a wire from another plug that you know is good and see if the problem goes away?

Have you discovered if this arcing problem is causing the cylinder to misfire?

I already swapped a wire and it still had an arc. I have since discovered it to be my opti. I emailed accel they have a 1 year warranty. Thanks to all for your help. I'll let you know what happens.

To update everyone, I sent my opti to Accel and I have to say they were some of the nicest people that I have ever dealt with. They sent me a new opti with no questions asked. I am gonna open it up and see what it looks like. I will install it tommorrow. I will fill you in on the results.

When I installed the second Accel opti it had sparks shooting out of the cap and into the water pump. Plus that crappy rubber seal had streched from the heat making the thing anything but moisture tight. The wterproofing of the GM makes the Accel look like a joke. The first opti had the pulse wheel making contact with the optical sensor as well as debris under the cap.

The Accel is total piece of !@#$. I said to hell with it and got a GM and no worries.
